dental crowns

If you are struggling with a severely decayed or damaged tooth, a dental crown can help restore its form, function, and aesthetics. At Ironwood Dental Care in Queens Creek, AZDr. Brent Stanley uses advanced Planmeca technology to design custom restorations, providing patients with convenient, same-day dental crowns. We use only the highest quality porcelain when fabricating your crown, and we can carefully design it so it blends seamlessly with the natural shape, size, and color of your smile. With precise and effective treatments, our patients can enjoy immediate and long-lasting results.

What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a "cap" designed to cover a tooth for both aesthetic and restorative purposes. It can be used individually to repair a tooth that is decayed, chipped, or severely stained. It may also be affixed to dental implants to replace missing teeth, or combined with a pontic (an artificial tooth) to create a dental bridge.

During your procedure, Dr. Stanley will reshape your tooth to ensure your restoration fits comfortably in your smile.

Are You a Candidate?

You may be a candidate for a dental crown if you have:

  • Moderate to severe dental decay

  • Teeth that are cracked or chipped

  • Broken or worn teeth

  • Dental discoloration that cannot be addressed with teeth whitening

  • Damage from teeth grinding

  • Undergone root canal therapy

  • Missing teeth and have received dental implants

During your consultation, Dr. Stanley can perform a thorough examination of your smile and evaluate your medical history to determine if you are eligible for a dental crown. If you decide to proceed with treatment, he can create a customized treatment plan that addresses your unique needs.

Same-Day Dental Crowns

Traditionally, it can take two to three weeks to manufacture these restorations at a dental laboratory, and they require messy and uncomfortable putty impressions. However, with innovative Planmeca technology, Dr. Stanley can use digital impressions and chairside technology to design and fabricate your dental crown on the same day as your procedure.

PLANMECA TECHNOLOGY

This technology uses computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) to create your beautifully customized restoration. During the appointment, Dr. Stanley can professionally clean your smile and prepare your tooth for your restoration. This involves removing a small layer of enamel from the tooth surface, to ensure the crown fits comfortably in your smile. He can then take digital images of your teeth with intraoral scanning. These scans are immediately uploaded to the chairside computer system, which will display a 3-D model of your smile.

Dr. Stanley can make any necessary adjustments to ensure your satisfaction. Once the mold is complete, the Planmeca machine will fabricate your dental crown from a single block of porcelain, color-matched to blend with your natural teeth. This process takes about an hour.

RESTORATION PLACEMENT

Once your restoration is ready, Dr. Stanley can place it over the tooth to check proper fit and color. If no modifications are needed, he can then attach your custom crown to your tooth with dental cement. At the end of your treatment, Dr. Stanley can check your bite for proper occlusion and polish your smile to add the finishing touches.
